THE men’s triples champions have been decided at Bowral Bowling Club.

Mick Flynn, Jeff Williams and Ashley Lewis secured the title with a 19-12 win over Dean Anderson, Stephen Della and Greg Lewis.

The players only had to complete three ends as the match was suspended six weeks ago owing to bad light.

At that stage, Flynn, Williams and Lewis were leading 16-11.

On the 19th end, Flynn put the pressure on when he outdrew Anderson to hold shot.

Della then drew inside Flynn’s bowl to hold shot.

Williams trailed the jack and held shot to give his side a 17-11 lead.

On the 20th end, Anderson played two back bowls and Greg Lewis didn’t come close to hitting the jack.

This meant that Flynn, Williams and Ashley Lewis picked up two shots to lead 19-11 with one end to play.

There was no late surge by Anderson, Della and Greg Lewis.

Flynn, Williams and Ashley Lewis were crowned triples champions.

    Pennant clash

THE Bowral ladies pennant team has requested a match against the club’s men this Thursday at 10am.

The ladies team has advanced to the state finals of the pennant comp, to be played in mid-August.

Three weeks ago, the Bowral team won the zone pennant flag.

The side held a match against the Bowral men’s side only a few days before winning the pennant.

The match proved great practise with the ladies winning one rink and losing another rink.

Saints and Seagulls to push for victory

LOOKING FOR A WAY: Talented Port Fairy youngster Rachel Giblin looks for a gap through the Koroit defence last Saturday at Victoria Park. Picture: Martina Murrihy
    Nanjing Night Net

THE battle for a finals berth heats up this Saturday for Koroit.

Andnot only will the Saints be looking for a win of their own, they will also be keen for Port Fairy to do them a favour.

Koroitis in fifth place on 28 points and this week play South Warrnambool who are fourth with 32 points.

Outside the five on 28 points isCamperdown with the Magpies opponent this Saturday being Port Fairy.

While Koroitwill be barracking for Port Fairy this week, it was a different story last Saturday when the two went up against each other.

The Saints won 41-28 but it was a hard-fought victory over a spirited Seagulls team.

Scores were level at quarter-time before Koroitslowly pulled away for a 13-goal triumph.

Goal attack Amy Wormald was best on court for Koroit while young gunRachel Giblin was the star for Port Fairy.

Koroitcoach Kasey Owen was happy with how her team was able to withstand the strong challenge from the Seagulls.

The win over Port Fairy and a 43-31 victory against South Warrnambool in round five has Owenexcited about this week’s assignment.

“The first time we played South was one of our best performances for the year so we will go in very positive,” Owen said.

“Amy Wormald is unavailable which is a bit of a blow but I think we have the depth to re-adjust to cover her not being there.”

With finals out of reach for Port Fairy, coach Kellie Sommerville said she is relishing the continued opportunities to play against strong teams.

“Against Koroit we just struggled to finish off, we had a lot of the ball and our attack at the contest was fantastic,” Sommerville said.

“Rachel Giblin was amazing at wing attack, I haven’t seen her play like that before, she was so aggressive and hit the ball hard.

“She has had to play in goals and that creates a lot ofpressure so she really enjoyed getting up the court a bit and she was very impressive.

“We are looking forward to playing Camperdown, all these games now will be a good chance for the girls to improve with next year in mind.”

In A1 it was a 38-16 win for Koroit with Millie Mahony shooting 25 goals for the winners while Kristen Sheehan was best for Port Fairy.

The under 17s was a close game with Port Fairy winning 32-30 with Victoria Blackwood the best for the Seagulls and Amber Peake the star for the Saints. The under 15s was won by Koroit 44-13 with Grace Lynch best while for Port Fairy Elizabeth Farley won that honour.Port Fairy were big 45-10 winners in the under 13s with Eloise Swarbrick shooting 26 goals for the Seagulls while best for Koroit was Bridie Quinlan.
